スプリント 予選12位 / 決勝11位
スプリントは正直なところ期待していたスタートにはなりませんでした。自分自身のペースとマシンマネジメントのバランスが噛み合わなかったのが原因です。ただチームが素早く対処してくれたおかげで、予選までにしっかり立て直すことができました。明日はF1での100戦目という特別な節目になります。初めてのレースだったバーレーンがまるで昨日のことのように感じられますが、ここまでの5年間は本当にいろんな経験をしてきました。F1という世界は簡単ではありませんが、諦めずに挑み続けることが大切だとあらためて実感しています。今、ようやく自分がいるべきポジションに戻ってこられた気がしています。そして何より、予選前に新しいフロアのアップグレードを間に合わせてくれたメカニックたちには本当に感謝しています。このアップグレードのおかげで、これまで以上に攻めた走りができましたし、クルマのスライドも抑えられてかなり乗りやすくなりました。チーム全体の努力の成果だと思います。今日は本当に運転していて楽しかったですし、明日の決勝に向けても手応えがあります。天気は雨が予想されていますが、ハイブリッドセットアップでドライでもウェットでも対応できる準備は整えています。もちろんできればドライコンディションの方がいいですね。今の目標は明日の決勝でしっかりポイントを獲得すること、そしてクルマの持つパフォーマンスを最大限に引き出すことです。予選後、ローラン・メキースが僕を見て笑いかけてくれた瞬間、以前のチームで一緒に戦っていた頃の記憶が一気に蘇ってきました。その笑顔にすごく勇気をもらいました。
The Sprint wasn’t the start to the day that we were wanting and my pace really didn’t stack up against my management of the car but the Team really turned things around very quickly ahead of Qualifying. P7 for my 100th start tomorrow is so exciting, it feels like yesterday that I had my first ever race in Bahrain and it really has been an interesting journey these past five years. The F1 environment can be hard but all you can do is keep pushing, which is what we did today. It is a great feeling being back to the place where I should be, but I would like to say a huge thank you to my mechanics who managed to make the upgrade to the floor ahead of Qualifying. The upgrade allowed me to really push and drive much closer to the limit than has been possible previously, the car is sliding less and is a lot more forgiving, really it’s a huge credit to the Team. I really enjoyed the drive today and am feeling more confident going into race day tomorrow, we know that it is likely to rain but our hybrid set up means that we are prepared for the wet or the dry but obviously I would prefer the dry. My main focus now is on scoring points tomorrow and extracting as much performance as possible from the car. Seeing Laurent at the end of Qualifying gave me flashbacks from when we worked together at Visa Cash App Racing Bulls, he smiled directly at me as soon as I pulled in today and it really boosted my confidence.

今日は少し波乱万丈な一日でした。チームとの間で誤解があり少し遅れてピットへ呼ばれました。その時点でピットエントリーを既に通過していたため残念な結果となりました。その後ピエールをオーバーテイクしようと努力しましたが、直線速度が不足しておりDRSも効果的ではありませんでした。全体としてフラストレーションの溜まるレースでポイントを獲得できなかったのは残念です。このレースから学ぶべき点がいくつかあります。次週のブダペストに向けて再び集中していきます。
Today has been a bit of a rollercoaster, there was a misunderstanding between myself and the Team and they called me in a little bit late on the last corner. At that point I had passed the pit entry already which was unfortunate. I then tried my best to overtake Pierre but my straight line speed was no where and I didn’t have DRS. Overall a frustrating race and disappointing not to be in the points. There are definitely a couple of things that we can we can take away from the race and we will re-focus for Budapest next weekend.
